Depression: Walking on Water

For those who don’t know, I am blessed to be a part of the Tyndale Blog Network. I say blessed because it provides me with reading material that doesn’t cost money. It’s been a hit with my wife (in saving money) other than the fact that it does add to my already too-large book collection. So, I might be termed a book lover/hoarder aka bibliophile. Because of this opportunity with Tyndale, I am able to branch out and read books that are outside of my comfort zone. These are books that I acknowledge are potential good reads, I might peruse them in a book store, but I just don’t have the unlimited coffers to purchase them with. I opted for a book titled Walking on Water: When You Feel Like You’re Drowning by Tommy Nelson and Steve...

SOPA Made Me [Not] Do It

SOPA Made Me [Not] Do It

I did not post in the last week in protest of SOPA. (If you believe that, then I have some land in Florida that could really be worth a fortune for sale!) In all seriousness, though, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) or the Protect IP Act (PIPA) is something you need to know about. I’m trying to keep my political thoughts away from this blog as much as possible, but I suspect they will come forth over time in my posts. For the record, trying to say that your faith should somehow not be a part of how you feel politically is a completely ignorant statement, but that’s another post for another day as I now digress. I simply wanted to draw attention to this SOPA/PIPA issue that many major websites are protesting because it influences everyone. I might...

Roll Tide Roll!

If you are a guy – you’ve probably caught my completely not-subtle reference to that little event that usually goes down on Saturday’s and typically involves some food and a large, comfortable chair while some guys in same-colored clothes chunk around a funny-shaped ball. (If you are a female and you caught the reference, hopefully some lucky guy has you already, because you’re a catch!) The phrase “Roll Tide Roll!” is southern for “Go Alabama!” (…or possibly Alabamer dependent upon what part yer kin folk might hail from). In literature this is known as a metaphor. Basically, that means it’s something like a symbol, a metaphor stands for something else. When Alabama fans chant this phrase, they don’t literally mean lay down and roll like the...

Preacher: An Invested Christian

What exactly is an invested Christian you ask? Let me tell you about one. His name is Truman and he was my “Pop” who just passed away over three weeks ago. His life was finally the catalyst I needed to get this blog launched. His life provided the humbling realization that I will never be as good as him; I blew that idea up long ago. I don’t know that anyone shy of Jesus himself could fill those shoes. I certainly don’t have a shot. However, that realization spurred me on to do what I am able. Just so that you can begin to understand this man, I’ll give you a little bit of information on his life. He was born in October of 1921 in a town just shy of Harrisonburg, VA. (One of my favorite places on Earth, I might add!) He grew up pretty...
